An apple that will last for a while made just for that special teacher. Make a few as coasters for a thank you gift or a welcome back to school present.

Yarn: 2 ozs worsted weight cotton or wool and small amount of similar yarn in other color for stem. Lion Cotton in Poppy Red & Lily’s Sugar’n Cream in Dark Pine was used in sample.

Notions: Tapestry Needle, Knitting tool.

Gauge: Not important for this project.

Abbreviations: MC = main color
FS = flat stitch
CC = contrasting color

Pattern Notes:

The i-cord goes by quickly don’t worry about it taking take to long to make. Roll and seam as you go to make finishing easier. You can also make other fruits by changing the color and seaming to change the shape. Just make it smaller for a drink coaster.

Hold two strands together throughout.

With MC cast on 4 pegs leaving a 30-inch tail.

Make an i-cord: *With the working yarn coming off the 4th peg, run the yarn behind the pegs back to the first peg. Bring to the front and FS the 4 pegs. Repeat from * until piece measures 7 feet (or 4 feet for the coaster). Cut working yarn leaving a 4-inch tail. Change to CC yarn and continue for 3 inches.

Bind off. Weave in ends.

Lay i-cord on flat surface and arrange into desired shape. Use 30-inch tail to seam i-cord together.

About Designer:

I live in the fogy city of San Francisco where I loom knit, knit with needles, crochet, and am trying to teach myself to spin yarn on a spindle. I work in the IT field full-time, have 3 furry babies, and 2 beautiful kids to compete with my yarn addiction. You can see more of her creations at her blog.
