Fall is in the air. The days are getting shorter and the air cooler. These are the days for hikes in the woods and trips to the apple orchard. Nothing speaks of fall more than cold apple cider, and warm donuts. This cute apple bag fits right into the theme of things. It would be a great place for the young lady in your life to keep all her special things—maybe even a real apple or two! Change the colors, and it could easily be a pumpkin bag instead. Simple and quick to make, this would be nice quick knit for someone special.

Pattern Notes:

Use 2 strands of yarn held together for the body of the bag. 1 strand for the handle and the drawstring.

In the pattern, when referring to the body of the bag, a stitch is equal to 2 loops because you are holding 2 strand of yarn together. Count those 2 loops together as one stitch.

Both bag and handle are knit in the e-wrap stitch.

BAG
1. Cast on the whole loom with a double strand of red yarn in the e-wrap stitch. When casting on, you will wrap the loom 3 times. This will give you 3 stitches (6 loops) on the loom. You will be knitting 1 stitch over 2 (the bottom 2 loops over the top 4 loops) for the body of the bag. This is the only time you will wrap the loom three consecutive times.
2. Knit until tube is 12 inches long.
3. Do not wrap the loom again. There will be 2 stitches or 4 loops on each peg. Pull the bottom stitch or 2 loops over the top one (2 loops). You will now have 1 stitch (2 loops) on each peg.
4. Bind off. Cut your yarn leaving a long tail. Thread your yarn tail on the tapestry needle and slip each stitch onto the yarn tail. Draw tight and sew securely. This is just like closing off the top of a hat.
5. Weave in loose ends.

HANDLE & DRAWSTRING
1. Using one strand of brown yarn, cast on 7 stitches on the loom, using the e-wrap stitch. You will be knitting the handle flat and then seaming it. Wrap the loom 3 times. Each peg will have 3 loops on it. Lift 1 over 2 on all the rows. This is the only time you will wrap the loom three consecutive times.
2. Knit until the piece is 15” long.
3. Bind off leaving a long tail.
4. Sew up the side and weave in ends.
5. Sew the handle to the bag so that each end is on opposite sides of the bag.
6. Crochet a 45-inch long chain out of the green yarn. I used a J size crochet hook.
7. Bind off and weave in ends.
8. On top of the bag there will be loose loops where you cast on. Weave the chain through these loops. Start in the middle on one side between the handles and weave around the bag. Pull even and tie.
9. Fill and enjoy.
